It's Friday!

You did it!  You survived another week!  It was rough.  Just a few more hours stand between you and your weekend! The weekend is your time to refresh and recharge...but how can you recharge while at work?  Here are a few tips to help you get focused and tackle the rest of your day-all while sitting at your desk (because after all, I'm practically chained to mine).
  • Stretch- Take a minute to stretch, get up, use your muscles and move your body. We sit.  A lot.  Get the blood flowing and the brain thinking!
  • Meditate-  I don't necessarily mean get on the ground and cross your legs.  I mean, go ahead if you want to #nojudgement.  Meditation is defined as engaging in contemplation or reflection. Meditation can help to reduce stress and lengthen your attention span.  If you really want to get zen, listen to this (earbuds recommended).
  • Laugh- If the image of your coworkers meditating made you giggle, you're halfway there! According to the Mayo Clinic, laughing actually has some health benefits.  If you need some inspiration check out this cute video (Warning: puppies)
  • Drink Water- I get it, coffee and Diet Coke are basically the fuel that drives the workplace.  However, proper hydration is an underestimated key to a better workday.  Being properly hydrated helps to reduce headaches, increases your capability to concentrate, and reduces tiredness. There is also evidence that hydration can effect mood.  Dehydration=crankiness, so drink up!  PS:  This water bottle changed my life

Good luck...and Happy Almost Weekend!

Things got a little weird in Washington

Yesterday, things got awkward. Real awkward. President Trump gave a 77 minute press conference that CNN has dubbed "An Amazing Moment in History," -similar to the sinking of the Titanic. Trump attacked the "out of control media" and blamed them for intelligence leaks that have plagued his administration for the 4 weeks of its existence. The President also asked April Ryan, an African American reporter to set up a meeting with black lawmakers, asking her if they were friends. *facepalm* You can read the entire transcript of the press conference here.  Also, the President's pick to replace Michael Flynn as the National Security Advisor, Bob Howard, said 'thanks, but no thanks.'  Yikes.

It might sound crazy but it ain't no lie...

*NSYNC is reuniting! Lance Bass confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that the boy band is planning a super special music release which will coincide with the 20th (yes, 20th) Anniversary of the 1998 'I'll be Home for Christmas' album release.  Bass also confirmed that the boys will back together for a few reunion appearances, and that they will at some point be receiving their star on the Hollywood Walk of fame this year. #takemymoney #JCChasez4ever

These are a few of my favorite things
The Busy Bee - A self described "quirky" girl from Milwaukee is the creative owner and operator of this apparel, stationary and home goods shop.  I'm in love with everything.  Also, though I haven't met her personally, Megan gets an A+ for customer service.  Support local artists and #shoplocal

What to do when you’re treated like the ‘Kitchen Wench’

People are gross, demeaning, and inconsiderate.  It never ceases to amaze me how gross, demeaning, and inconsiderate they are.  It’s only worsened by the fact that we do, after all, clean up after them daily.  Whether its dirty crusty dishes in the sink, candy wrappers, mugs left in odd places (inside the bubbler), or their literal mistakes (‘oh hey did you know our company name is spelled wrong on all these documents?).
So what can you do when you are seen as the office maid/housekeeper/kitchen wench?  Though it may feel like the best solution is start the building on fire and walk away as the office burns- like the smart, intelligent, bad b***h you are; the likelihood of your continued employment or any potential employment isn’t great.
My recommendation is to express your frustration in as positive a way as you can manage.  It’s not easy when you’re upset.  I personally run on caffeine, cuss words, and sarcasm, so I am not an exemplary example of how to behave in this situation.  Sometimes saying how something makes you feel, makes you feel a little better.  Holding it in doesn’t do anyone any good.
If your boss man/boss lady isn’t receptive to your frustration- then it’s time to stick together.  Get your peers together to tackle the not so fun task.  It’s likely that if you’re unhappy, they’re most likely unhappy for similar reasons.  Misery loves company, and teamwork solves problems.
Maybe your boss man/ boss lady will be more sympathetic to your complaints if they come from a group rather than an individual.  Lord knows you don’t want to piss of the people that work hard, clean up literal messes, and clean up people’s mistakes.
Till then- grin and bear it, get your work done, and GTFO at 5:00 PM

If you needed another reason to think Ashton Kutcher is a dreamboat

Yesterday, the Punk'd star passionately testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a hearing regarding modern slavery and human trafficking. Kutcher referred to his 'Day Job' as the Chairman of Thorn; which is an organization that helps to fight the sexual exploitation of children. You can read more of Kutcher's emotional testimony here. March 14, 2017 is #MyFreedomDay - An event in which students around the world will be holding events to bring awareness to modern slavery and human trafficking.

If you're looking for a new job

Any interest in becoming the new Secretary of Labor? Yesterday Trump's nominee, Andrew Puzder took himself out of the running. Puzder is a fast food executive.  Though, as one of Trump's most controversial nominees, he wasn't expected to fair to well at the committee hearing amongst both Dems and Republicans.  A few reasons he may have withdrew his nomination are:
-  He allegedly abused his ex-wife in the 80's.  She even spoke about it on Oprah in disguise. Allegations which his ex-wife has since claimed were false
-  He once hired an undocumented alien as a housekeeper for many years.  He did however pay all the back taxes.
-  He allegedly underpaid his fast food employees.

Oops.

Need a 15 second distraction?

Pick a salad and let Buzzfeed tell you what your age and 'Dream Job' really is (I'm apparently a 46 year old teacher).
